AeRO extends its thanks to Mr Rob Cook (outgoing Chair) and Dr Markus Buchhorn (outgoing CEO) for their outstanding commitment and service to AeRO, its members and the eResearch community over a long period of time.

Sam comes to AeRO with a background in high performance computing, most recently leading a team of research software engineers within CSIRO.

“I’m excited and honoured to be joining AeRO as it transitions from an establishment phase to one of growth and new initiatives. Recent events such as the AeRO Forum and National Infrastructure Review Workshop highlight what can be achieved when diverse members of our community come together and I’m especially looking forward to being part of the activity at eResearch Australasia.”

CAUDIT and QCIF share a long history with AeRO. QCIF was actively involved (along with the other five ARDC organisations) in founding AeRO in its earliest form, and both QCIF and CAUDIT have continued to support AeRO as the organisation has matured through the years.

According to Ms Kealley “Through the annual AeRO Forum and eResearch Australasia conference AeRO is uniquely positioned to coordinate discussions and activity in the Australasian eResearch space. I look forward to working with Phil, the Executive Committee, all members and our new CEO, Sam Moskwa, to help shape this work.”

Earlier this year, AeRO formalized and expanded its membership offerings to include institutional members, and are pleased to have welcomed a number of new institutional members organisations in Australia and New Zealand.

“This is an exciting time to be in eResearch, with more and more researchers working on big data problems, and ongoing development of the plans for a national research data cloud. AeRO plays a significant leadership and coordination role for the sector, and together with Anne, Sam and the Executive Committee we have a strong team to capitalise on the opportunities that the growth in the sector will provide.” added Dr Gurney.

Over the coming year, AeRO will seek to create more opportunities for the sector to come together, from regular events to new community platforms, so our members can share and learn from one another and achieve more impact.
