Dear colleagues
You are invited to participate in the 2017 AeRO National Forum, to be held on the 4th of May 2017 in Canberra.
The annual AeRO National Forum is a one day event, which attracts senior staff from its members as well as eResearch leads from institutions, NCRIS capabilities, discipline communities, research centres, funding bodies, government and other agencies. Representatives from the Department of Education and Training also attend. At the 2016 Forum, we had over 80 attendees from over 50 organisations, and we expect this year to be even bigger.
It is clear the major challenge facing the eResearch sector is the rapid growth of research data, its capture, use and longer-term preservation, across a diversity of platforms and tools. Sustainability is important but so is agility and adaptability, to allow research and researchers to thrive. Key objectives for this year’s forum are to understand the future needs of the research communities, the institutional approaches to supporting their researchers, and what the various eResearch capabilities are currently working towards.
Our context includes the emerging National Research Infrastructure Roadmap, and its draft suggestions about an Australian Research Data Cloud (ARDC). The Forum will seek to identify issues and requirements to help in part inform the planning for an ARDC, and how that concept might sit within the national research framework going forward. It will also help to guide and shape AeRO’s future.
We are currently confirming a number of speakers, including from the Roadmap team. Once the speakers are confirmed we will issue the final agenda for the Forum, via email and the web.
Costs and booking:
$250 for General Attendees. Substantial discounts for AeRO members. Bookings via the AeRO Forum EventBrite page.
I’m seeking again to schedule it so that it can be a day-trip for most of those from interstate.
In the meantime, please reserve the date in your diary, and book your ticket as early as possible to ensure your seat. If you are unable to attend personally we would welcome your nomination of an alternate senior person to represent your organisation.
We look forward to seeing you on the day.  If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
Thank you!
Markus
